The Chieftains est un groupe de musique irlandaise fondé en 1962 connu mondialement pour jouer et avoir populariser la musique traditionnelle.

The Chieftains fut fondé en 1962 par PADDY MOLONEY.
Depuis plus de cinquante ans, les Chieftains rayonnent sur la musique irlandaise traditionnelle à laquelle ils ont permis une reconnaissance mondiale.
Avec les Chieftains, c'est un peu comme si l'on se promenait dans la campagne irlandaise en écoutant des mélodies jouées sur des instruments traditionnels: la flûte, la cornemuse, les violons, la harpe qui fut l'un des instruments joués par Derek et dont la place a été reprise par Triona Marshall.
Les Chieftains sont une véritable institution irlandaise au même titre qu'une certaine bière brune, ils ont influencé de nombreux artistes dans leur pays et à travers le monde. Ils ont gagné six Grammy Awards et y ont été nommés dix-huit fois.
Membres du groupe en 2012-2013
Paddy Moloney est toujours le leader du groupe. Il en compose et arrange la plupart des morceaux. Le groupe a changé plusieurs fois de formation, un noyau dur restant en place tout au long de son histoire pour assurer sa pérennité. Depuis 1976, les membres sont :
